- Traveled to Israel in 2007 to engage in "violent jihad," but returned home after the effort failed, according to a federal indictment.

Criminal history:
- Charged on Nov. 27, 2007, with injury to personal property, simple assault, misdemeanor conspiracy and other offenses (charges dismissed April 23, 2009 because witness wouldn't testify)
- Pleaded guilty on May 18, 2009, to felonious restraint, stemming from Dec. 28, 2008, kidnapping and robbery charges; was sentenced to 24 months on probation
- Outstanding burglary warrant in Texas in connection with a 2006 theft of materials from a construction site
