Dozens of municipalities, political leaders and musicians have voiced opposition to House Bill 2, which requires people to use public bathrooms that correspond to their birth gender, excludes gay and transgender people from protections against employment and public accommodations discrimination and blocks cities and counties from extending such protections to them.

Some have gone one step further by changing their plans to expand or perform in the Tar Heel State.

San Francisco Symphony
The orchestra canceled two concerts in Chapel Hill because of the law.

NCAA
The NCAA voted Sept. 12 to relocate championships scheduled to be held in North Carolina through June 2017, including events at the Division I, Division II and Division III levels ranging from men's basketball regional competition to the women's lacrosse championship.

American Physical Society’s Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics
The scientific group canceled plans to hold its 2018 convention in Charlotte, which they said would have generated $5 million for the Queen City's economy. Officials said they want to provide "a welcoming environment for all members." The group plans to move the convention to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

NBA All-Star Game
The annual All-Star Game had been slated for Charlotte, but NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the league had to move the game after being unable to persuade North Carolina officials to rescind House Bill 2, which Silver said doesn't promote the NBA's values of diversity and inclusiveness. The NBA will hold its 2019 All-Star Game in Charlotte if the state rolls back the law by then.

Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists
CSTE usually holds its annual convention in the home state of its president, which next year would be North Carolina State Epidemiologist Dr. Megan Davies, but the group said so many of its members wouldn't be able to attend because of bans on non-essential travel to North Carolina enacted by a number of states and cities that it wouldn't be cost-effective to keep its June 2017 convention in Raleigh. The group also noted the political environment in North Carolina isn't hospitable. Raleigh Convention Center officials said the loss of the convention would cost the area about $890,000.

Citizen Science Association
Citizen Science Association, which tries to boost public involvement in scientific research, moved its February 2017 convention from Raleigh because of the growing number of local travel bans to North Carolina. Raleigh Convention Center officials said the move would cost the area about $693,000.

Itzhak Perlman
Violinist Itzhak Perlman wrote on his website, "I have decided to cancel my May 18th concert in North Carolina with the North Carolina Symphony as a stand against House Bill 2."

National Council of La Raza
NCLR, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, moved its 2016 Northeast/Southeast Affiliate Leadership Convening on Oct. 1-4 from Raleigh to Miami due to the group's opposition to House Bill 2. Raleigh Convention Center officials said the shift would cost the area an estimated $230,300.

Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, pop singers touring together on the Future Now tour, announced on Twitter that they would forgo two scheduled North Carolina appearances in protest against House Bill 2.

Blue Man Group
The Blue Man Group announced on their website that they would be canceling a June 17-19 engagement at the Belk Theater at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte.

UK travel advisory
The British government issued a travel advisory to its gay and transgender citizens, warning them about potential problems if they visit North Carolina. "The US is an extremely diverse society and attitudes towards LGBT people differ hugely across the country. LGBT travellers may be affected by legislation passed recently in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. Before travelling please read our general travel advice for the LGBT community."

National Organization for Victim Assistance
Conference scheduled for Aug. 21-24 in Charlotte will be held elsewhere. More than 1,000 crime victim advocates from across the United States were expected to attend.

Pearl Jam
The band canceled its April 20 concert at PNC Arena in Raleigh, calling House Bill 2 "a despicable piece of legislation that encourages discrimination against an entire group of American citizens."

Boston
The rock band canceled May 4-6 concerts in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, saying "human rights are more important" than a 40th anniversary tour.

Community Transportation Association of America
A June 7-15, 2018, conference in Raleigh has been shifted to Baltimore. Officials estimate the move will cost the Triangle more than $1.7 million, including more than 2,500 lost hotel bookings.

Record Store Day
The event, which was supposed to be held in conjunction with the Hopscotch music festival in September, is moving to Baltimore, costing Raleigh an estimated $191,000.

Cirque du Soleil
The acrobatic troupe said in an April 15 statement that it has canceled weeks of shows in Greensboro in April, in Raleigh in June and Charlotte in July, calling House Bill 2 "an important regression to ensuring human rights for all."

Ani DiFranco
DiFranco said in a statement on April 14 that she canceled her appearance at Festival for the Eno music festival in Durham on July 4. She said HB2 is a "direct attack on the rights of the LGBT community."

Ringo Starr
Former Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr announced April 13 that he would no longer play a June 18 show scheduled for Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre.

Deutsche Bank
The bank announced April 12 that it would freeze plans to create 250 jobs at its Cary location. Deutsche Bank employs 900 people at its software application development center in Cary. In September 2015, the bank announced its plan to add the 250 jobs through 2017 and invest $9 million there through the end of this year. North Carolina agreed to provide about $3.3 million in incentives for the expansion.

Certified B Corporations
Nearly 1,700 Certified B Corporations announced April 11 that they would move a cluster of October events out of the Tar Heel State. Those events included a global gathering of CEOs and executives, a series of public talks and a conference for economic development.

Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Springsteen canceled an April 10 show in Greensboro over the bill's passage. In a statement, Springsteen asserted that the law attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their rights are violated in the workplace. Officials with the Greensboro Coliseum said they stand to lose about $100,000 in lost revenue because of the canceled show.

PayPal
The online money transfer service said April 5 it would no longer open an operations center in Charlotte. PayPal announced plans in March to open a $3.5 million center that would have employed 400 people.

International Association of Security & Investigative Regulators
Canceled plans to hold a fall conference in Raleigh. The Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated the conference would have generated about $57,000 in economic impact.

Johnston Supply Fall Meeting (2018)
No longer holding a conference at the Marriott. The Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated the event would have generated $208,000 in economic impact.

Matria Tech Leadership Conference
Conference scheduled for September 2016 has been moved from Raleigh to Baltimore.

NCSU Library Conference
Conference scheduled for May 2017 has been moved from Raleigh to Baltimore.
