Three-time WRAL Champions

There have been 532 champions during the 42-year run of the WRAL Wrestling Tournament. Nine of those wrestlers won three years running. They are:

Russell Wilson (Enloe, 1972,73,74);

Rusty Quate (Garner, 1973,74,75);

Barry Armstrong (Cary, 1974,75,76);

Johnny Autry (Cape Fear, 1983,84,85);

James Jones (Rock Hill SC, 1988,89,90);

Robbie Ripley (Nitro WV, 1999,2000,2001);

Raymond Jordan (New Bern, 2001,02,03);

Byron Sigmon (Bandys, 2003,04,05)

Four-time Champ

The only 4-time WRAL champion is Colton Palmer (Durham Riverside) who won in 2003,04,05,06 and twice OSW.

Colton’s high school record was 284-6, and he went 91-0 as a senior, both national records. Colton wrestled at NC State and returned to the WRAL Wrestling Tournament in 2013 to announce the tournament finals.
